Trina Redman – Studio Owner

I started a Bikram yoga practice in 2005 and was ‘hooked’ after my first class. After having a consistent practice for two and half years I took a leave from my job as a social worker and went to Honolulu, Hawaii in 2007 where I completed the Bikram’s (500) hour teacher training. In November 2009 I completed the YogaKids (32) hour Foundations training.  In October 1-30th, 2010 I attended and completed the wonderful, intense Moksha Yoga teacher training in Montreal, QC.

I love yoga and believe yoga is for everybody – the young and the old and in between.

“Whether you are sick or weak, young, old or even very old, you can succeed in yoga if you practice diligently” (Hatha Yoga Pradipika). Yoga is a ‘practice’ not a ‘perfect’ – so every day in the room is a different day. I invite you to come and practice with us – mindfully, joyfully, diligently and without judgment.

Namaste.

Dwight Ergang – General Manager

I went to my first Hot Yoga class in 2003 at the advice of one of the personal trainers of Gold's Gym where I had been a member of for the past (15) years. I had several chronic sports injuries that would not heal. I had separated my shoulder from diving incorrectly from the high-dive platform at the Canada Games Pool. I had also hurt my other shoulder from lifting heavy weights at the gym. I reluctantly went to my first Bikram Hot Yoga class and suffered through several classes as my shoulders slowly begin to heal. After (30) classes or so the pain was gone and after (6) months of regular practice my full range of motion was restored.

It was about one year later that I started taking the Hot Yoga classes seriously and started to come more often which resulted in many sick-free and injury-free years.

I completed the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in the Fall of 2007 with the goal of someday opening a Hot Yoga Studio.
Fast forward (2) years and I am excited to announce that I am opening a Hot yoga Studio with my partner Trina Redman.

I look forward to seeing you come visit us at Kamloops Hot Yoga and hopefully you will find a home with us as you discover your own reasons for doing Hot Yoga.

I started yoga about 8 years ago (2003) on a whim, looking for an alternative way to stay fit. As it turned out there is so much more to yoga than bending, folding and twisting the body. Yoga also stretches the mind by asking you to challenge your beliefs about your SELF, your body, your consciousness and your identity. In doing so, yoga created a real and lasting change in my life. Yoga is as strong as you make it and takes you as deep as you are willing to go. It is not muscles, the thin waist nor the youthful look that is yoga’s real power, instead the intoxicating nectar of yoga is our ability to use this ancient technique to connect to the deepest and most powerful SELF and find lasting peace!

It has worked for me and I have seen it work for many people, which is why I want to share my love of yoga with all others. I chose to do this in the form of Power Flow Yoga. I fell in love with it for its challenge of strength and flexibility.

Marcia Wilson Yoga Trainer

Power Flow Yoga is a vigorous, fitness-based approach to Vinyasa style yoga. The word Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement”. In other words you move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale. It is called a flow because of the smooth way that the poses run together and become like a dance. Most power yoga is closely modeled on the Ashtanga style or practice. Any power yoga class can vary wildly from the next. What they have in common is an emphasis on strength and flexibility.

I took my training in Tulum, Mexico in June of 2011 with Sean & Karen Conely, owners of Amazing Yoga in Pittsburg Pennsylvania. They were trained by Baron Baptiste.  I will continue training with Sean and Karen next spring. In the meantime I will be adding other courses to my yoga repertoire. I look forward to growing with yoga and with you… the students.

Charlotte Wyvill

I was first introduced to yoga as a drama student in 2005 where I learned to have a sense of respectful wonder towards my body and the world around me. I immediately fell in love with the way that practicing yoga made me feel; how it calmed and centered me as well as how it inspired and energized me. In 2009 I took the 200 hour teacher training at the Yoga Passage in Calgary and since then have been teaching part time. In October 2011 I did the Yhot teacher training in Vancouver. I am the kind of person who needs to try a little of everything and that is reflected in my teaching. Sometimes I love to teach the Yhot sequence with its structured postures, set timings and focus on finding stillness and presence.

Other classes I love to teach more free style, flowing from posture to posture with a focus on internal movement and awareness.

My regular yoga practice has inspired my life in so many ways. I have gained a deeper sense of self-awareness and confidence, a deeper connection to my body, a greater ability to be present and mindful and more patience and compassion with the people around me. When I practice regularly, I no longer suffer from back pain and I have energy instead of feeling tired all the time. I feel so blessed to have found yoga and am so grateful to all of the teachers who have inspired me to be my best self I am so excited to have the opportunity to share what I can and to continue to learn from the incredible teachers and students around me.

Lacey Hook

I first started practicing hot yoga about a year ago. I have always been an active person, and tend to sample all sorts of fitness based activities but nothing ever really stuck for long. Looking for something new to inspire my fitness routine, my Mom, boyfriend and I all agreed to try hot yoga at this studio. Of course, it wasn't long before we were coming back regularly, and the gym was frequently being replaced by a hot, glorious, yoga class.

In terms of my career, I graduated from Thompson Rivers University with a Bachelor of Tourism in 2010 but was completely at a loss with what I wanted to do with my life. A crossroads presented itself where I was managing at a beautiful resort, but the long, stressful hours were completely exhausting and I knew the lifestyle was incredibly unhealthy for me. As ironic as this sounds, I realised I had to change the path my life was heading in while I was lying in Savasana before class. It took some time for my plan to be set into action, but by the end of September, 2011, I was on a plane heading for teacher training in Thailand.

The 200 Hour Absolute Hot Yoga Teacher Training was a month intensive program that was one of the most significant experiences in my life. The course provided a platform where I could be completely submerged in yoga, learn how to teach hot yoga, and be continuously pushed on an internal and personal level. Without a doubt, the training had a powerful impact on who I am today and I'm very grateful for the teachers who shared their knowledge, guided us through the emotional rollercoasters and aided in our success as teachers. The teacher training was just the beginning of what I believe will be an incredible journey as I continue to love, learn and promote yoga.

For the first time in a really long time, I feel completely content with where my life is. Yoga has positively influenced my life in so many ways and I'm so excited to continue forward in this direction, embracing all that yoga teaches and encourages. I'm grateful for Trina and Dwight who supported me through this process and look forward to continue to learn and grow with everyone at the studio as a teacher and a student.
