What is Hot Yoga?

Hot yoga is simply yoga performed in a heated room. Performing yoga in the heat is a practice that is becoming ever more celebrated, popularized by a variety of styles of hatha yoga.

Types of Hot Yoga

Series Classes - Traditional Hot and Mukti are our signature series classes.  A repetition of carefully sequenced held classic poses brings understanding, strength and flexibility in a full body experience. This all –levels class initiates the beginner while still challenging the practiced yogi in the room. Our Mukti classes are all taught by Moksha certified instructors.  The room is heated to 40 degrees, so don’t forget your water. 

Flow Yoga  - Flow classes incorporate Vinyasa and Ashtanga styles that link one pose to the next with your breath.  You will experience Sun Salutations and other flows to loosen the boundaries of your practice.  Each class combines unique sequences and is an excellent way to bring strength, flexibility and balance to your yoga practice. The temperatures in this class is 35 degrees. 

Hot Classic Hatha - Hot Hatha classes are a great way to understand the principles of yoga.  Classes are based on themes and bring deeper understanding of your body and your practice. Hatha instructors hold poses to allow exploration and knowledge to initiate discovery of your personal edge. These crafted classes appeal to all levels and is held in a 40 degree room.

Yoga X - whether you are a runner, cyclist, or soccer player, this class will explore various yoga poses that will build strength, flexibilty and endurance in all areas of the body. By improving alignment, balancing strength and increasing range of motion, the body can move and perform with greater ease, reducing your risk of injury.

Noon-Shop - this new workshop styled class you will explore some of the more challenging poses from the Traditional Hot, Mukti, Hatha and Flow classes. You can expect to learn different techniques to become more comfortable in these poses, proper alignment and the "tricks" of each pose AND avanced variations - ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME 

Types of Yoga Practiced at Room Temperature

Yin Yoga - Yin is a slower practice which targets joints, tendons, ligaments and fascia within the body. Each posture is held for long periods of time to encourage the slow and safe opening of connective tissues, leaving the yogi with an overall feeling of lightness, spaciousness and peace. This class is great for all levels including athletes looking for a focused stretch experience.

Hatha to Yin -  This class combines two of our popular offering to bring you the best of both worlds.  This 75 minute class starts with working the muscles in a Hatha class and melts down into the deep opening of a Yin class for a blissful ending to your experience. This is a perfect class for those looking for a well rounded yoga class without the added heat.  

Yin to Nidra - This marriage is made in heaven. Yin poses to start the class to bring deep opening into the joints and flexibility into the muscles followed by Yoga Nidra (Yoga Sleep). Nidra is a guided systematic relaxation of the mind and body to bring deep stress relief and subconscious balancing. Your mind and body will both feel lighter with this experience. 

Restorative Yoga -  Restorative yoga is a form of yoga that seeks to achieve physical, mental and emotional relaxation with the aid of props.  The use of props makes it easier for you to maintain balance while you are stimulating and relaxing your body.  While some restorative yoga poses are beneficial to the entire body, others target specific parts of the body, such as the heart or lungs.  Attend this class and you will watch your stress float away. 

Core Yoga - Core classes combine classic core exercises with core focused yoga postures to strengthen and tone your body. Strengthening the center of the body will not only bring your yoga practice to the next level, but will help you develop habits for lower back health. Whether you have a regular core routine or just realized there is some work to be done, this class is for you.

Yoga Sculpt -Yoga Sculpt is a combination of flow yoga and strength training that incorporates weights within the poses and the practice. This fun energetic practice is a comprehensive blending of aerobic exercise, flexibility training, strength training core and balance training.  Weights are provided in the studio for this class. 

Barre Classes -  Barre classes integrate elements of Pilates, ballet, yoga and strength training into a challenging and fun full body workout.  No tutu or experience is needed for this class.  Pre-registration is required for this class. 

Ajaya (Warrior) sessions are specialized class sessions where you can bring your yoga practice to the next level in a variety of areas.  Inversions and Forearm Balances and Yoga for Back Pain are just a couple of examples of the types of offerings we have had in past sessions.  Look at our Workshops and Events page for the current offering.   • General Information

    • All classes are 60/75/90 minutes depending on class time.
    • Students of all levels are welcome. You will need to be (16) years or older to attend classes. Under age (18) will need a parent or guardian to sign Waiver Form.
    • Please arrive at least (10) minutes prior to the start of class. (First-timers need to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to class to register). Late comers WILL NOT be admitted as it is disruptive to the class in session.
    • The room is hot, be prepared to sweat. Some of the classes are at room temperature. Check the schedule for class type.
    • Wear lightweight workout clothes.
    • Bring water, yoga mat and two towels. These items are also available for purchase/rent at the studios.
    • Drink plenty of water throughout the day before class (approximately 1 liter) Don't try to over hydrate in class. Sips of water are fine, but ultimately you want no food or liquid in the stomach during the practice.
    • For noticeable benefits, we recommend coming at least three times a week.
    • For a complete life overhaul, we recommend committing to six days a week for two months. Your life will never be the same again.

    In order to create and maintain a pleasant environment for your yoga practice, we ask that you read and abide by the following policies:

    • Admittance is on a first come, first served basis
    • Leave shoes in the front lobby
    • Make sure you and others around you have a view of the front mirror
    • The Hot Room is a SILENT ROOM. Please respect and enjoy the silence of the Hot Room before and after class.
    • No scented products should be worn in the room or sprayed in the room.

Trina Redman - Studio Owner

I started a Bikram yoga practice in 2005 and was 'hooked' after my first class. After having a consistent practice for two and half years I took a leave from my job as a social worker and went to Honolulu, Hawaii in 2007 where I completed the Bikram's (500) hour teacher training. In November 2009 I completed the YogaKids (32) hour Foundations training. In October 1-30th, 2010 I attended and completed the wonderful, intense Moksha Yoga teacher training in Montreal.  November 2013 I refreshed my hot training in Mexico with Tony Sanchez.  Moving from hot training to the not hot - yin - in 2010 I completed a 50 hour yin training with Bernie Clark and in 2011 further yin training with Paul & Suzee Grilley.  Moving from hottest most movement to less heat and more stillness in May 2014 I participated in a Yoga Nidra training through Semper Viva in Vancouver. 

I love yoga and believe yoga is for everybody - the young and the old and in between.

“Whether you are sick or weak, young, old or even very old, you can succeed in yoga if you practice diligently” (Hatha Yoga Pradipika). Yoga is a 'practice' not a ‘perfect’ – so every day in the room is a different day. I invite you to come and practice with us – mindfully, joyfully, diligently and without judgment. I went to my first Hot Yoga class in 2003 at the advice of one of the personal trainers of Gold's Gym where I had been a member of for the past (15) years. I had several chronic sports injuries that would not heal. I had separated my shoulder from diving incorrectly from the high-dive platform at the Canada Games Pool. I had also hurt my other shoulder from lifting heavy weights at the gym. I reluctantly went to my first Bikram Hot Yoga class and suffered through several classes as my shoulders slowly begin to heal. After (30) classes or so the pain was gone and after (6) months of regular practice my full range of motion was restored.

It was about one year later that I started taking the Hot Yoga classes seriously and started to come more often which resulted in many sick-free and injury-free years.

I completed the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in the Fall of 2007 with the goal of someday opening a Hot Yoga Studio.

I refreshed my Hot Training again in November 2013 with Tony Sanchez in Mexico

What can students expect from my class:

I bring into the room 25 years of dedication to the practice and study of yoga and 14 years of teaching yoga.  My worldly travels and meditations have shown me the value of silence and space in yoga practice. I try to hold that space to allow for everyone to explore their practice to their fullest potential.  Everyone coming into my class has traveled down their own personal road to the get to today’s yoga class.  I celebrate the variation in the room and try to support everyone’s journey. I always endeavour inspire students to be the best yogi they can be in class today. Keeping in mind, the mantra that today’s class is platform for tomorrow’s class. My hope is that everyone will learn something about yoga and/or themselves in every class I teach and their life will be enriched by this process.

Why Yoga: 

Yoga has been such a part of my life for so long, I can’t imagine a day without practice, breath or yogic philosophy as a basis for my daily decisions.  My journey to understand the underlying yogic philosophy has lead me to sit in silence for 10 days, twice. Wear our “Yoga with Yogi Hari” cassette tapes.  It has taken me to Nepal and India. It had given me the tools to birth my children in my home, then mindfully raise them.  It has allowed me turn a passion into profession in Ontario and here in Kamloops. Throughout the years, I have had the honour to be in the presence of some of today’s modern masters of yoga. The way they move through life is almost surreal and has inspired my journey on this path to see the glimmers of light and love that they see.

What can students expect in my class?

Playful, entertaining, fun, exciting, thrilling, exhilarating, action-packed, stirring, rousing, stimulating, intoxicating, electrifying, invigorating; gripping, compelling, powerful, dramatic … this is how practice feels like these days and I wish nothing less for my students to experience that same exhilaration. I want them to walk away feeling lighter, stronger, a person who is better then they were when they come into class.

Why Yoga?

Yoga moves me in ways no other exercise does. It connects me to my thoughts and feelings, and awakens my spirit. It lets me be a child again and the same time helps me grow as a person. I believe in challenging myself in every practice to learn something new about who I am. That process of engaging the body, mind, emotions and spirit is healing and empowering and

is the essence of what I seek to share in every class. For me, yoga is not about using my body to learn poses. It's about using poses to learn about my body. Through that process I learn about my mind and how that connects me to my Spirit and the Spirit World.

What Students can Expect in my class?

I love leading vigorous but playful classes. I wholeheartedly believe that on average, most people have too much stress and negativity in their lives. So, when they come to class, I want to relieve some of that and replace it with some deep soul, a greater inner connection, and some good old fashioned fun. Similarly, to give students some time to slow down, I try to regularly leave a decent amount of time for a deep, quiet and introspective cool down at the end of class. I want students to feel revitalized for the rest of their day!



Why Yoga?

“Like attracts like and opposites heal,” a mantra I embrace as a result of having yoga in my life. I always thought to be ‘successful,’ a person had to accomplish an endless list of things each day and that this would define you as a person. Yoga helped to slow me down, create a pathway of self acceptance, and develop more compassion for those I love. I constantly show up on my mat and open myself to the lessons of yoga, including being present and content with all that I am blessed with in this life.




I began practicing yoga in 2010, and havent looked back since! Initially I went to class for the physical benefits, however I soon realized that my mental and spiritual health had improved immensely as well. Yogas' ability to transform the mind, body and soul has changed my life in numerous ways; from my own self-awareness to my relationships with others. In September 2012 I completed Prana Yoga Colleges' 200hr teacher training in Hatha yoga. It was one of the most significant and transformative times in my life. During my training I had the opportunity to learn from Shakti Mhi a teacher who has literally dedicated her life to teach others the beauty and power of traditional Hatha yoga. My training has given me the ability to teach others the asanas (postures) with a focus on safety, alignment and breath in a knowledgeable way and has provided me the tools to help others realize their full potential through their yoga practice. My goal as an instructor is to inspire, encourage and educate my students on their journey along the path of yoga.

My classes are safe environment to explore what yoga has to off you, with a mix of foundations and challenges, it’s about listening to your body and what it is asking for. Why Yoga:

Yoga has helped me move through various life challenges. When I am on my mat, it’s a place to be myself and listen to my needs. I enjoy the various sides of yoga and how they have all challenged me when I needed it most. This space where I can play, move, fail, rest and learn; which leaves me always wanting more time on my mat.

What you can expect from my class:

Its important to me to provide a safe space, free of judgements, for students to have an hour or so to take time to connect to their needs. Students are encouraged first and foremost to practice from a place of authenticity, listening to their own innate wisdom from what they need. Sometimes this means burning up some extra energy in challenging poses, or maybe it means savasana for half the class! That's different for each person, each time they practice. Be sure that if you want a challenge one will safely, and lovingly with a focus on alignment be provided to you! 

Why yoga?

I have loved yoga since 2005, after finding it as a therapeutic outlet to injuries incurred from competitive gymnastics and rowing. I have stayed with it because of how it's transformed my life on and off the mat. Above all else, I still believes a yoga practice should be therapeutic and nourishing for the mind and body. My interest in anatomy grew from a biology class taken at the University of Waterloo, Ontario. During this time I was practicing Moksha yoga, and stumbled onto an opportunity to take a 500 hr Moksha YTT in 2010 in Montreal with Ted Grand, and Jess Robertson. A thirst for adventure and mountain air carried me to Kamloops, and after completing an extensive 2 year massage therapy course in Cambridge, Ontario, I am very happy to be back and sharing my love and knowledge of anatomy and health with the Kamloops hot yoga family.

What students can expect from my classes:

The fine folks who created the "Absolute" traditional hot style that I teach call our series "Bikram with a twist!" So, in that regard, you can expect my traditional hot classes to offer consistency and discipline for students of all levels and abilities, which allows for opportunities to recognize areas of growth/improvement. In addition to a disciplined regimen--and perhaps in contrast with such--students can expect me to shimmy in some energetic and light-hearted enthusiasm and perhaps a few attempts at humour, which hopefully help to relax a little and maybe even have some fun!

  In my kids yoga classes I emphasize the importance of letting go, being yourself, being open minded, being connected, being creative, being silly, and just being a kid! Partner/group yoga, acro, games, yoga art projects, meditation, breathing, and relaxation& visualization are all part of our kids yoga adventure! We might go on an African safari or a magic carpet ride or partake in a yoga obstacle course or scavenger hunt..but one thing's for sure: we'll have fun while we learn about yoga, the world, each other, and ourselves! And of course, the kids are given a chance to take a break from our sometimes overtly stimulating daily lives and given time to just relax.

Why yoga?:

I could go on and on about all the great things that yoga has provided me with and how it's changed my life for the better, because it has. Yoga is AMAZING. Yet, rather than ramble on about how yoga is everything that's right and good in the world, I encourage all to give it an honest try (regularly and consistently with an open mind/heart for at least a few weeks) and then ask yourself: why NOT yoga? I'm sure you'll see that that is a much more difficult question to answer.

What can students expect from your class? In my classes I emphasize connection to breath, to self, to sensation and to the present moment.

My traditional hot classes follow a set sequence to help you deepen your postures through repetition and discipline. My flow classes are playful and fun, with a different sequence and focus each week. My restorative classes provide deep relaxation and comfort in a warm and supportive environment.


Why Yoga? I began yoga as a drama student and found it tremendously helpful in a stressful time. Over the next few years my practice was irregular and I started to recognize a pattern. Times when I didn’t find much time for practice my back hurt, I worried a lot, I became crankier and more self-conscious but less self-aware. When I practiced several times a week I was pain free, more relaxed, more confident, happier and approached life optimistically with an open mind and heart. I believe that yoga brings us closer to our true selves, the joyful, open, confident, and most importantly deeply connected self that is at the core of each of us.

What can students expect from your class: Students can expect an escape, I want them to see their mat as a private oasis where they are encouraged to let go of life's heaviness - become lighter.  My intention is for students to soften through breath but also find that physical intensity that taps into discipline and confidence. I truly love every class that I can serve my students, by guiding them through inspiring, uplifting and regenerative classes.

Why Yoga? 
Over the last 16 years my practice has been, and remains, a place I can depend on to find  clarity, peace and centering.  I love how my body and mind feel after class and whatever I am going through in life seems more manageable.  After many years of working in business, my desire for a more balanced  lifestyle led me to becoming a  yoga teacher.  It is rewarding in so many ways and I continue to love my yoga journey.

What students can expect from my class -

My classes are light-hearted and authentic. I encourage my students to connect with their breath, and dive into their practice not only physically, but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually. My Traditional Hot classes are quite structured, whereas my hatha and flow classes are a little bit more dynamic and playful, and my yin and restorative classes are very relaxed and inward-focused. I love variety, and believe in teaching my students to honour their body and let go of expectations, because every day is different, and every day in the yoga room is a different experience!

Why yoga?

Yoga is where I get to express myself. It calms my mind, teaches me to love my body, and helps me connect with my soul. Yoga has peeled off layers of me. It is constantly teaching me, and I am inspired to share what I learn with my students.

What can students expect?

A kinesiological and therapeutic approach to yoga, assisting students based on their individual needs – finding the optimal posture or modification for their individual body, while providing education, guidance and love. Yoga is a means to explore the body, to truly get to know it, though awareness, acceptance, appreciation and so much more. 

What is your passion?

When I began practicing yoga 15+ years ago while studying Human Kinetics in university, yoga was a means for relaxation and mental focus.  I then started a Kinesiology practice focused in sports conditioning, but was drawn more to helping those with injury and disease – shifting my focus to cardiac rehab, mental health and chronic pain.  With a deep love for yoga, anatomy and physiology, I continued to study and explore, combining my Kinesiology background with yoga therapeutics.  My last venture to India pulled me deeper into Ashtanga Vinyasa and opened my eyes wider to Ayurveda and the therapeutics of yoga in healing the body.  Upon my return I studied Yin, to offer both Yin and Yang - a balance for students. Diving deeper into study, completing a Master Teacher Training program has once again brought me back to being a student of yoga, forever learning and growing..

What students can expect from my class:

Barre classes are a perfect blend of the grace of ballet, strength of Pilates and stretch of yoga. Don't worry, absolutely no dance experience is required! You can expect a fun, yet challenging, full-body toning session set to upbeat music in a non-heated room.

Why barre (and yoga)?

I initially came to KHY in 2010 as a supplement to the dance classes I was taking, but found so much more. In addition to increased flexibility and strength, I have become part of an amazing community and have found a sense of mindfulness and contentment that I did not necessarily get out of dance.
Barre classes are the ultimate combination of the things I love (ballet, yoga and pilates), and they are a great complement to a regular yoga practice with a focus on strength building, isometric movements.

Who am I ?

With a heart as big as the prairie sky I grew up under, I am a giver of care. Along with teaching yoga to adults and children, I am also in the process of doing my Masters of counseling. In my spare time will find me singing, hiking, or biking.

And what about Yoga?

I came to yoga as a way to love and feel ok in myself. I felt disconnected from my body and desperately needed a way to find security and strength within myself.  Living a life of Yoga is giving me this, and more. On this journey I have developed a deep rooted passion for discussions surrounding body image, self love and healing the whole self through yoga.

As a yoga instructor I have been teaching for several years and completed a direct 200 hour Yoga Alliance certified mentorship with Katrina Ariel.  Additionally, I have taken various workshops with highly skilled instructors and studied several hours under YogaFit training systems. Bridging my passion for youth and yoga, I have completed a training in yoga for at-risk youth with teacher Ryan Leier. Most importantly I am and always will be a dedicated student of yoga and life. I am very excited to share my enthusiasm and loving teachings with my students. 

My style of teaching is gentle and loving with a focus on alignment and flow. I teach classes of all ages and all levels and love to incorporate meditation and pranayama. I believe that each class should have moments to build strength and find relaxation

Why yoga?

I came from a sports background with many injuries so yoga was something that I could do every day without feeling pain.  But luckily for me it became much more of important practice than that.

What are your future goals?

I eventually would like to teach Hatha one day, but I am in no hurry because I am just happy being a student of yoga at the moment and otherwise I’d like to be working for event planning within sporting events of festivals.

Why Yoga?

My bff and now co-worker Daniela bugged me into trying it - 2.5 years later I am sure glad she did.

What are your future goals?

I eventually want to get into medical school but in the meantime working as the Studio Manager for KHY has allowed me to meet so many great individuals and has furthered my want to work directly with others.


Why yoga?
I previously struggled with stress/anxiety and digestive disorders but thanks to my yoga practice I don’t suffer from any of it anymore! I consider yoga to be my therapy and best medicine. It has changed my life in so many ways.
What are your future goals?
Outside of Kamloops Hot Yoga I am also a Holistic Doula. One of my goals is to combine my two passions, yoga and birth work, and teach prenatal and postnatal yoga!


Why yoga?

Why is this even a question? Yoga can be woven into anyone's lifestyle. I stumbled upon yoga while veering through my own transformation process. Yoga has given my many gifts and has allowed me the avenue to share these virtues with everyone I meet. I challenge you to incorporate yoga into your heart and share your own (((GOOD VIBES))) with the world. Together we can start something beautiful.

What are your future goals?

Dear Future,
I hope to deepen my practice and learn to teach yoga. I also wish to become the interior representative for the new BC Ed Plan in project based learning, driving innovation to the great white north. Until then I'd like to still teach high school level science and math, maybe even earning my masters.
